Reliance Industries CMD Mukesh Ambani flagged its OTT platform JioHotstar as the second largest streaming platform globally, with 300 million paying subscribers, during its Annual General Meeting on Friday and promised its expansion across platform and geographies.

“JioStar offers over 3.2 lakh hours of content ─ six times more than the next two OTT platforms combined ─ with 30,000+ hours added every year. Our Media & Entertainment business delivered a record-breaking performance,” said Akash Ambani, Chiarman of Reliance Jio Infocomm.

Following the launch of the JioHotstar app, combining Disney+Hotstar, over 600 million users had on-boarded the platform within three months, including over 75 million Connected TVs.

On the new platform’s progress, Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, said, “India is one of the most important and exciting markets for Disney globally. JioStar has quickly established itself as a global force in media and entertainment, with nearly 300 million paid subscribers.”

In addition, with a 34 per cent TV market share, Jio voiced confidence in serving a billion screens across mobile, TV, and connected devices. The company also talked about expanding across platforms and geographies.

RIL announced three new features for its OTT platform, RIYA, a voice-enabled search assistant for findibg content, Voice Print that provides content in the preferred Indian language and JioLenZ that offers multiple viewing options.

For cricket viewing, RIL introduced Maxview 3.0 that puts multiple camera angles, choice of language, instant highlights, and live scorecards on the same screen.
