Corning will supply the glass, while Optiemus will carry out chemical processing at its Noida plant for both premium and budget smartphones, with plans for global exports.
Optiemus Infracom Limited, a leading electronics manufacturer, on Wednesday launched India’s first premium ‘tempered glass screen protectors’ brand ‘RhinoTech’ — which uses glass engineered by Corning – and the company is aiming at a revenue of ₹1,800-2,000 crore by end of FY27.
The tempered glass screen protector market in India is currently estimated to be around $2.5 billion, and it is expected to double in the next five years, according to Ashok Kumar Gupta, Chairman of Optiemus Infracom.
According to the partnership, Corning will supply glass for the screen protectors, while Optiemus will perform the chemical processing at its Noida plant, resulting in an end product suitable for both premium and budget segment mobile phones in the country, and later for global consumption.
BIS introduces quality standards for tempered glass
Gupta informed that India has set a global standard for tempered glass screen protectors through a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) notification now, which aims to eliminate substandard products. It includes parameters for chemical tempering, visual defects, and mechanical strength, including compression and flexural tests.
On asked about partnership with mobile manufacturers for selling these products, Gupta said, “Right now, we are focusing only with after-market sales, so that the dealers can sell genuine products and once the government makes the standards mandatory, the market would be flourished with such products and sell lesser products from grey markets or cheap imported screen protectors.”
Plans to sell via online channels and global exports
He also said apart from selling the products through its online channel and eCommerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, Optiemus will also look at exporting these ‘Made in India’ screen protectors to West Asia, Europe and even in the US.

It is our aspiration that every Indian mobile phone user enjoys the assurance of a ‘Make in India’ tempered glass screen protector, certified by BIS and marked with a fog stamp for the highest quality and protection,” Gupta added.
