Modern snowboarding emerged in the United States during the 1960s as people explored new winter activities. Influenced by surfers and skateboarders, the sport quickly gained popularity. In 1994, the International Ski Federation (now the International Ski and Snowboard Federation) officially recognized snowboarding as a discipline. Snowboarding made its Olympic debut at the 1998 Nagano Games with the giant slalom and halfpipe events, with additional events introduced in later Games.

The 9th Asian Winter Games, set to take place from February 7 to 14 in Harbin City, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, will feature six snowboarding events. These include both men’s and women’s competitions in halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air.
