Nothing electrifies the vibes quite like a thunderous portable speaker. If you’re like me and prefer your music to rattle your surroundings (much to your partner’s dismay), the powerful JBL Boombox 3 is likely the best boom for your buck. The biggest portable Bluetooth speaker in JBL’s line-up, it’s currently on sale at a whopping 30% off on Amazon, its lowest price since last Black Friday. That knocks $150 off its typical list price of $499.95.
While many love the brand’s carabiner-equipped Clip 4 for portable listening, the Boombox 3 is the brand’s loudest to-go speaker, with many saying it has incredible, strong bass and sound. Reviewer Some Guy provides an anecdote: “I’m already impressed, and I haven’t even gone past 50% volume on the basic equalizer settings yet!” Rambunctious sound aside, it’s also got an impressive claimed 24-hour battery life, a top handle for easy carry and a waterproof body that floats to the surface of pools. Oh, it also works as a power bank to charge your devices. That’s one mighty device.
The speaker is compatible with the JBL app, which gives you access to the speaker’s equalizer so you can toggle bass and treble levels to your desired level. It’s rechargeable with an AC power cord and has one USB-A port for charging your phone in case it’s low on juice from streaming music. The JBL Boombox 3 also sports a nifty feature called PartyBoost, allowing you to tether it with other JBL speakers for a more immersive experience — why use one speaker when you can use many?
Of course, the sound is what matters most here, and as reviewer Micha S. can attest, the Boombox 3 has got it in spades decibels. “Overall, for a portable speaker system,” they say. “there isn’t really anything out there that can touch this for sound quality, durability, or how loud it can go while still maintaining clarity. This is probably why JBL charges a serious premium for it.”
Whether you plan on spending the season chilling poolside or backyard grilling, this speaker is the powerhouse that can soundtrack it. Grab it at its lowest price of the year and jam out through the summer.

“So I have been back and forth on the boombox 3 for months, saw the deal and pulled the trigger. I’d like to note I have a JBL 1300X soundbar setup which is a monster in itself, this boombox gives it a run for its money in clarity and very balanced bass. If you’re debating, do it. Trust me you WILL love it!” — mike
“This thing rocks. It gets crazy loud, has clear sound, and a really long battery life (even if you are pounding the tunes). I also own a Sonos move. This thing is a clearly superior product. Now the Sonos has Wifi, Alexa/Google Assistant, smaller/lighter, and the Sonos ecosystem. In exchange, it has a much shorter battery life, doesn’t sound as good, not nearly as loud, not a robust, not as easily portable. The Sonos is good for an indoor speaker/Alexa device, but if you want a true portable speaker, the JBL is a much better choice.” — Nitrousbird
“I have the Original JBL Extreme but the battery stopped charging so I just decided to upgrade and use the old one for work, since I’ve had it for a while. I almost got a different brand but saw this was just coming out so I canceled and got the boombox 3 instead. I was a bit hesitant because the early reviews were mixed, especially for the app. The husband and I compared it to my old JBL (it’s still great) and it’s was such an improvement. Bass is awesome. Sound is crisp. We hooked it up to our Samsung TV and watched movies. Kids came downstairs and commented that it was just like the theater because of all the deep bass (we have wood and tile floors so I’m sure that helps) . I love it as a car speaker in my back seat too 😆 I showed my coworkers and they were all impressed ( that such a big sound came from such a small speaker ) and wanting to try different music genres . One coworker said he’s got huge speakers for his house entertainment center and this beats those.” — Colleen wilson
“This really is a great speaker. I like a lot about it. Its beautiful, heavy, solid. The sound coming out is high quality and crystal clear even at high volume settings. Having said that, the other reviews say things like “Monster Bass” and “Rivals a 10 inch subwoofer” seem a bit over the top for me and where I have to respectfully disagree. Im not going to claim to be an audio specialist with 40 years of experience in the field. But I know my ears do not hear “Monster” bass. And maybe Ive been lucky with my 10in car setups in the past but this wont come REMOTELY close to any of the 10s Ive ever had. So please just manage expectations. For what it is, a waterproof boombox, it really does have incredible sound. I just wanted to put my experience and opinion out there. I have no buyers remorse. Great product. I would buy it again.” — B
“Super expensive but sounds great! I don’t regret buying it at all. But it is way more expensive than it needs to be. Battery life lasts about 3 hours when cranked up all the way. The best thing is that you can continue to use it while it is plugged in. It is waterproof and does float. Anytime it gets dirty i just rinse it off. But beware it will continue to drain water out of it for hours so don’t set it on a surface that it will ruin after you get it wet. Sound quality is very good. Bass is strong and it is very loud. If I am in the garage with the doors closed you can here it in the street so don’t under estimate it. Also you have to use the app to set it up which was kinda of dumb but it does allow you to tweak the sound which was a very nice feature. you will notice though it lags a bit when connecting when you turn it on and when it disconnects when you shut it off which is no big deal but definitely can be improved upon. Over all for a portable speaker system there isn’t really anything out there that can touch this for sound quality, durability or how loud it can go while still have clarity. This is probably why JBL charges a serious premium for it. You will also notice it does have some weight to it so it is not something you would want to carry around all day. I also notice it does improve the sound a bit if you leave it plugged in while using it is you are going to listen to it real loud. If you buy it, you wont regret it. I sure don’t. I use it very frequently to the dismay of my neighbors” — Micah S
